Who We Are
Friends of Topanga Point (FOTP) is a stakeholder coalition that seeks to ensure that the lagoon project is designed in a manner which preserves the important recreational resource that Topanga represents for surfers.
We support the general idea of improved ecological function of the lagoon, species protection and habitat restoration but any project build alternative must also explicitly protect the surf break and the natural forces, particularly the creek mouth location, which create and maintain it.
We recognize the need for independent comprehensive hydrology study to be completed and its findings incorporated into the restoration plan.
We suggest that 100 years of Topanga surfing history be included as part of the area’s cultural history.
As surfers, we are concerned about the effects an expanded PCH bridge will have on parking, access and sand displacement especially during high flow events.
